João Coelho was born in 2005 in Viana do Castelo, Portugal. He began his musical studies at the age of eight at the Lethes School of Music, under the guidance of Professor Ricardo Rocha, and later attended the Amadeus School of Music.
In 2023, he completed the String Instrument Performer Course at ARTEAM, in the class of Professor Rodrigo Peixoto.
He continued his training with guitarist and pedagogue Francisco Gomes, aiming to deepen his technical and artistic knowledge and to prepare for admission to a prestigious European higher education institution. In June 2025, he was admitted to the Royal Conservatory of Music of Madrid, one of the most renowned institutions in the field of musical performance, where he currently studies.
Throughout his academic and artistic career, João Coelho has had the opportunity to work with several conductors, including Javier Viceiro, Diogo Costa, Vítor Lima, César Lima, Gonçalo Dias, Jaime Álvarez, Armando Gonzales, and João Passos.
Further enriching his education, he has participated in numerous masterclasses with distinguished guitarists and teachers such as Francisco Gomes, Graham Devine, Evan Rothstein, Dejan Ivanović, Michalis Kontaxakis, Judicaël Perroy, Pedro Rufino, Francisco Luis, and Pedro Rodrigues.
Since 2025, he has intensified his performance activity, regularly appearing in recital. He has performed at various venues and events, notably Facha, Vitorino das Donas, Correlhã, Igreja Matriz, Expolima, and the Salão Nobre of the Paços do Concelho in Ponte de Lima; Amadeus Music Center, AP–Dona Aninhas, ARTEAM, Santiago da Barra, Mosteiro de S. Romão de Neiva, Casa Museu de Monção, in Viana do Castelo; as well as Subportela and Academia de Música Fernandes Fão.

Here is a short excerpt from my first audition at the Royal Conservatory of Music of Madrid. This first stage of my journey in Madrid has been absolutely amazing — I have learned so much and lived an extremely enriching experience. It is an extraordinary feeling to be able to make music and take my art to places I never imagined I would reach. I would like to deeply thank my family for all their support along this path. I am also very grateful to my colleagues who have accompanied me on this journey, from whom I have learned so much — not only as musicians, but also as friends and constant sources of inspiration and motivation. It is with great pride that I share with you that I took part in the new edition of “Revista Desde 1125”, a lifestyle magazine published by the Municipality of Ponte de Lima, available in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. This edition features a section dedicated to people from Ponte de Lima who are a reference in their professional fields — and it is an honor to see my work recognized in this way. Thank you to the Municipality of Ponte de Lima for the invitation and for valuing those who carry the name of our hometown beyond its borders.
Yesterday I experienced a very special moment: my first musical performance in Madrid. It took place at IFEMA, a huge and vibrant venue, during an international gathering where countries from all over the world showcased their culture, traditions, and identity. I had the privilege of representing Portugal through the Amar o Minho space, a tent dedicated to the culture, gastronomy, and traditions of Alto Minho. Bringing our music and a piece of Minho to Madrid, in such an international setting, was an absolutely spectacular and truly enriching experience. This moment was also marked by an unexpected and very special meeting with the President of the Município de Ponte de Lima, Eng. Vasco Ferraz, and the Vice-President, Dr. Paulo Sousa.
